Who we are:

SM22 is formed of a marketing and investment arm, Amplify and Ventures.

The Ventures arm was founded by SM22 MD James Sheehan in 2014. James is a seasoned financial executive and angel investor. James has conducted many capital raisings and has invested in SME's at the seed, series A, pre-IPO, and IPO stage, guiding the company and management through every stage of the process.

James is an exit strategy specialist and has floated hundreds of companies on London's stock exchanges in successful IPO's. He has also managed several M&A transactions and delivered a significant number of trade sales for unquoted companies.

James gained much of his financial experience during a near 20-year City career, covering all sides of the investment process, from corporate finance and broking to private client investment management.

James has a strong network within the UK's small-cap growth market and has successfully fundraised in excess of £1Bln for listed companies on AIM, Standard List and FTSE small cap. He has built a dynamic and experienced investor network that can deploy from £500k - £10m in exciting, high-impact, private and listed companies. James' main passion has always been in Sport & Media, looking for businesses with an ethical approach and a focus "For Good".

Ventures is supported by Analyst, Harrie Smith. After completing a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Oxford University, Harrie joined a leading strategy consulting firm, executing research and analysis for some of the largest global private equity firms.

Following his passion for sport, media and the early-stage landscape, Harrie joined SM22. He manages company deal flow, scoping the most exciting companies in the market. Harrie also helps to support the current portfolio, conducting market research and model evaluation to guide the growth strategy and capital deployment of our network companies.

SM22 works in an impactful and flexible way to support companies from seed – exit across our key verticals.

At the early stage (seed/pre-series A), SM22 can invest internal funds, and execute capital raising’s from the network of exceptional value-add angels, VCs and family offices. We work closely with founders to help structure the key investor documents, facilitating introductions to our network to bolster the next stage of growth.

We work closely with founders from Series-A and beyond to support their growth trajectory towards exit. SM22 helps evaluate market research to guide the capital deployment and growth trajectory, enhanced by corporate strategy advisory services.

In the later stage, SM22 has deep expertise in structuring exit transactions, whether this is a listing or a trade sale.
